Job summary

The Respiratory Therapist participates in the formulation and implementation of the respiratory care plan for patients with complex or advanced cardiopulmonary issues. They are also responsible for documenting procedures and recording results along with the calibration and maintenance of equipment.



Essential job responsibilities
• Serve as a respiratory system consultant to other therapists, physicians, and nurses.
• Participate in the formulation and implementation of the respiratory care plan then implement and maintain record of the plan.
• Conduct bedside diagnostic studies and procedures; informs the appropriate medical personnel of the results and recommend a course of treatment.
• Perform medical gas administration and aerosol therapy. Administer medication as directed by physician
• Conduct chest physical therapy, including bronchopulmonary drainage and exercises.
• Schedule patients for procedures in the laboratory. Obtain patient registration and billing information for studies and enter charges upon delivery of services.
• Set up and restock bronchoscopy carts for the ICU.
• Calibrate and perform quality control on laboratory equipment.
• Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
• Current Certification or Registry by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
• Maintain an active Respiratory Care license by the District of Columbia.
